ALL MY BIKES

I have a seat on the porche of my rolling home. Over 100 horses asleeped in atelage are able to jump out of the deepest dreams on one tour of key in the starter. All is so good. Ambient temperature is reaching 26 degrees Celsius. Berlin is flowering from a few days, air is a smog of pollen, front bicycle wheel stucks between my feet. White glows on my hands, original DDR spokes opener is playing its magical tricks. I pull up one good cooled beer on the porch of my rolling home, more than 100 horses are sleeping tight...welcome Berlin, light up ma joint and liberating this beautiful axel from used spokes and cheap aluminium rim. Next bike in my head. It gonna be a poetry for the birds singing in every park here, no matter the rave beat ,clouds of smoked marijuana spiced with sausage barbecue, and muds of fermentating post beer urine. The birds are singing over all kind of human catastrophe. They know they will have peace from us, so they sing no matter what a shit we would create. Oh!...we're not such bad beings, but the birds don't care, for them we are only noise and stinky dirt. So...the original, very smooth and extremely efficient DDR bicycle tool is playing the show with my fingers, the wheel is going to get dismantled in 30 minutes. Sun is shining, three little birds are singing on my doors, every little thing is OK. One very cool axle, old school racer type finally liberated from cheap stuff, is turning the rounds freely, it will significantly contribute to the final conception of my Captain Grant, Mexican Red painted old Hercules recycled from one Zombie bought with 20 euros. I love this job. Do you see? How reality can be really smooth comfortable and shiny? No? Don't you see?...So I will sing it again. I am sitting on the porche of my rolling home, more than 100 horses are still dreaming.Three little brids are singing on my door, every little thing is ok. I finished ma joint, and my beer is not so cold anymore, the recycled fabulous axel of the front wheel has been prepared for remount in a new conical silver rim, to become a piece of one incredibly beautiful bicycle.

Sun is shining in the only city in Europe where freedom cannot be anymore compromised. Do you get this poem finally in to your ear? I do what I want, where I want, in the sun, with a fun, listening to the birds I am doing my money. And it's the best money ever. Made totally Gypsy way. There's no need for a specific workshop. One box of tools, a piece of ground, one joint, one cold beer, and sun.
It's the best job ever, and the birds don't stop singing.
Very honestly talking...bicycle mechanic it's one of the best, most rational, of the absolutely creative, basically economical jobs in the wide and wild world. The principle of this job is so healthy, as it can become basically capitalist activity. It runs on two wheels, which must be well done to make everything run smoothly. To build the wheels are needed just a few tools, one chair, patience, and sharp eye or sensitive fingers. Everybody can do it, literally Everybody. And building the wheels is such a healthy and meditative activity, that I have built hundreds of them. This job offers an opportunity of total autonomy. It teaches the magic of mechanics, physics and simplicity of economy. Overall it is one fundamentally healthy business. It's a pleasure to transform one  trashed, abandoned on the side of the street, scratched and rusted piece of scrap into a machine which will ride for the joy and well-being of the rider. I have built many of them. Many frankensteins have been assembled by my hands. Many of them have met the new owners whose eyes were sparkling and who's smiles were getting large once they pedalled the bicycles fitting to them. It is really so nice to see those encounters, and my heart is always troubled for one instant when my next bike is rolling away with its new friend. No matter the feelings, I say to myself, most important is that my customers are pedalling.

It's the best thing I can offer to people, one good bicycle which would be able to run a few thousands of kilometres to freedom, pleasure, adventure and perfect state of health. That's not a dream, that's a very smooth reality. The bicycle is such a clear simple construction, it is one of the most useful inventions that humankind has committed. It's a passionate story about coupling the powers of one simplest vehicle to transport one human through all kinds of conditions and over all kinds of difficulties. One guy, a German engineer, has said " What's so great about building a bicycle, it's just a few pipes connected into one simple frame, two wheels, the pedals, transmission, steering and brakes...?" Hmmm...I am so sorry for you, what does engineering mean to you? I did ask silently, but never got any answer. The truth is, that the bicycle conception has got so widely developed, that today absolutely everybody can find one "simple frame, with pedals, two wheels, transmission, brakes and steering" adequate to body shape and to the power
capacity. Today, everybody can jump on the bicycle wisely prepared to ride the thousands of kilometers across the mountains, the forests and the desert. Today, anyone slightly experienced in bicycle riding can easily run over a hundred kilometres per day, and three hundred kilometres per day has become a reachable average. So...yes, bicycle designing, as simple as it is, as efficiency problematic it will always cause. And that's the point of the magical transformation of the matter.

All my bikes brought to me a joy of independence, creativity and this is what's the most important in all of this story...the deep feeling of doing something right for humanity. And that's the point. I have never made any big business around, and however I was also struggling not once, but this instant when I see someone smiling while riding away with the bike I have built is just priceless. And of course my life shape has been very evolved thanks to the knowledge I acquired by learning this one of the simplest and most efficient technologies. Finally I jumped on my super cruiser and the travel I did with this bicycle was the most comfortable and the freedom taste I got was the ultimate one. So, I have built another cruiser, more efficient than precedent and I pedalled across the countries next time, and the next time... All my bike stories have become a life aspect for me. It's a kind of job that I can do everywhere in the world. It's one fully rock'n'roll beauty of riding wild into adventure. It's a freedom experience that I wish for everybody.
